Abstract

The aim of the present work was to perform a comparative analysis of influence of chronic admin-
istration of 5-HT 2B/2C receptor agonist (m-CPP) and 5-HT 2A/2C receptor antagonist — ketanserine
on anxiety-like behavior, on gonadal hormones levels in the blood and on expression on mRNAs
of 5-HT 2C - and 17β-estradiol receptors in the hippocampus and amygdala of the adult female rats
during ovary cycle. Ketarserine administration rendered an anxiolytic-like action in rats with estrous
and proestrous phases, simultaneously the inhibiting of pituitary-ovary system, and the stimulating of
mRNAs of 5-HT 2C - and 17β-estradiol receptors expression in the hippocampus and amyldala. M-CPP
stimulated pituitary-ovary axis, and inhibited expression of mRNA of 5-HT 2C -receptor in the brain.
The data obtained indicate a close interaction between ovary hormonal and serotonergic systems of
the brain in the mechanisms of the anxiety-like behavior.
