Хронiчний довiчний характер цукрового дiабету (ЦД) обумовлює безперечну соцiальну значущiсть цiєї хвороби, що стало пiдгрунтям для планування та виконання в останнi десятирiччя великої кiлько- стi багатоцентрових наукових дослiджень, розробки всеохоплюючих практичних рекомендацiй, створення численних консенсусiв щодо ранньої дiагностики, оптимi- зацiї лiкування ЦД, профiлактики виникнення та прогресування найбiльш небезпечних його наслiдкiв — хронiчних дiабетичних ускладнень (EURODIAB, 2001, DCCT/EDIC, 2005, AACE/ADA Consensus Statement on Inpatient Glycemic Control, 2009)
