Abstract

Many researchers have established that insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and their receptors (rIGFs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders and neoplastic processes. The aim of the study. To conduct a morphological analysis and an analysis of the expression level of rIFR-1 and rIFR-2 in samples of thyroid tissue removed during surgery from patients with nodular forms of goiter, depending on the body mass index (BMI).

Materials and Methods. Patients were divided into three groups - with normal weight (BMI<25 kg/m2), overweight (BMI=25-30 kg/m2) and obesity 1-2 (BMI>30 kg/m2). Histological micropreparations of removed thyroid tissue with focal nodular hyperplasia, stained with hematoxylin and eosin, were used for general assessment of tissue condition, microscopic examination of glands, and morphometric examination. Morphological assessment also included the use of immunohistochemical methods.

Results and Conclusions. Immunohistochemical examination of thyroid tissue in patients with overweight and obesity revealed moderate (2 ++) and severe (3 +++) expression of rIGF-1, respectively, at low expression in the group with normal body weight; There is a strong correlation between the expression of rIGF-1 and BMI in groups of overweight and obese patients, which may indicate the pathogenetic influence of IGF-1 on the development of hyperplastic processes in the thyroid gland. The adult population of Ukraine with excess body weight and obesity is a risk group for the development of thyroid neoplasms.
